Practice Areas
Three services,
each handled with
the same deliberate care.
Bondhold works in three areas of family law. Each is described here in some detail, so that prospective clients can form a view of whether the service is suited to their situation before making an enquiry.

How an engagement typically proceeds
Every engagement at Bondhold begins with a conversation — an initial meeting in which the solicitor listens carefully to the client's situation and asks whatever is needed to understand the relevant facts. No substantive work is undertaken at this stage, and no fee is charged.
Following the initial meeting, an engagement letter is prepared setting out the scope of work, the fee, and the expected timeline. Work begins only when the client has reviewed and agreed to the letter in writing.
During the engagement, the solicitor communicates in writing at each meaningful stage. Clients receive notes of meetings, drafts of documents for review, and a clear explanation of each step before it is taken. Nothing is finalised without the client's understanding and agreement.
At the close of an engagement, the client receives a complete copy of all documents and correspondence produced during the work. The record is theirs to keep.
Service 01
Pre-Marriage Legal Review
A pre-marriage legal review offered for couples who wish to understand the legal implications of the arrangement they are entering, including property considerations, residence plans, and interactions with family responsibilities. The review is conducted jointly or individually as the couple prefer, and proceeds at a pace that allows for conversation between meetings.
Written material prepared during the engagement is drafted in plain language and is suited to being revisited over time as circumstances develop.
- Conducted jointly or individually as preferred
- Covers property, residence, and family responsibilities
- Plain-language materials prepared for future reference
- Typically two to three sessions over three to six weeks
- Engagement letter before any work begins
Documents to bring
Identity documents for both parties. Any existing property title documents, tenancy agreements, or overseas legal documents relevant to the matter. Not all of these will be required — bring what you have and the solicitor will advise on what else may be useful.

Service 02
Separation Agreement Drafting
Drafting of separation agreements for clients whose circumstances make a documented arrangement preferable to proceeding informally. The drafting is conducted with care for clarity, anticipating the questions a reader may raise in years to come, and with attention to the interaction between financial arrangements and the care of children where applicable.
The process includes separate drafting conversations where appropriate, and the final document is reviewed with the client in full before signature.
- Drafted for long-term clarity, not only immediate resolution
- Addresses financial arrangements and children's welfare
- Separate conversations available for each party
- Full joint review before signature
- Complete document record provided at close
Documents to bring
Marriage certificate. Any existing arrangements regarding property, finances, or children. Bank statements or asset summaries if financial matters are to be addressed. Documents relating to children's schooling or residence arrangements, if applicable.

Advisory on Cross-Border Family Matters
Advisory work in family matters with a cross-border element, whether arising from a spouse residing abroad, international schooling arrangements, or the need to recognise overseas documents within Malaysia. The engagement begins with a careful mapping of the relevant jurisdictions and the routes most likely to produce a workable outcome.
Where foreign counsel is involved, communication is coordinated respectfully and at a measured pace. The client is kept informed of progress through written notes at each stage.
- Jurisdiction mapping before any document preparation
- Coordination with foreign counsel where required
- Overseas document recognition within Malaysia
- Written progress notes at each stage
- Malay, English, and Mandarin capacity
Documents to bring
Any overseas court orders, marriage or birth certificates, official correspondence from foreign authorities, or documents relating to the international dimension of the matter. Copies are sufficient for a first meeting.
